A couple of hours ago – it’s 2 am right now — as I was getting ready to close up shop for the night, I went onto Twitter one last time before heading for bath and bed. I tweeted this.

For those of you whose bosses don’t let you on Twitter, it read:

Getting ready for a hot bath and glass of wine with @chrisbrogan and @julien. Well, their book, anyway. #illtakewhaticanget

I went. I had my bath. As I was getting ready to go to bed, I remembered I was waiting on something, so I logged back on. I had a handful of DMs from someone I know who didn’t like what I said. Not a troll. Someone I know.

If you’re like most home business owners or future home business owners, you’ve done your homework. You’ve probably been hanging around here for a while and you’ve probably read a lot of the posts and comments. Maybe you read Entrepreneur magazine. Maybe you have a Delicious profile full of resources and home business tips. You have researched and planned yourself to death.

Just to overwhelm you, I’d like to add one more piece of advice. This is probably the most valuable advice I could ever offer anyone in your spot.

So I’m in the tattoo parlour — another favorite Tuesday morning activity, and I overhear this comment from the most badass looking tattooist I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a few) to a girl who is no more 18 than Jack is:

“You want me to put a heart and a maple leaf and a rainbow inside a shamrock behind your ear? Get out of my fucking shop.”

It’s nice that tattoo artists get to say these kinds of things. I have a feeling I’m in the wrong job.

So LIZ STRAUSS called me on the phone this evening. (Some people call it “name-dropping”. I call it “adding flavor to the story”.) I told her this story. She said I should blog about it.

Oh yeah, and for the doubters? This SO has to do with home business. Just wait.

Um, when LIZ STRAUSS tells you to blog about something, you should probably blog about it. She knows a little bit about this sort of thing. (Blogging, not the story itself. I’m sure when it comes to the story she’ll wash her hands of it and claim she doesn’t even know me.)

I’ve started this a dozen times, and each time, it came out wrong. Then, when I realized that if I wanted to run this piece in time for Christmas I would actually have to write it before Christmas, I figured I’d just start at the beginning and let it go from there.
