Urgent: Free SOBCon Tickets, Must Give Away SOON

by Naomi Dunford

If y’all didn’t know, I was going to SOBCon, Biz School for Bloggers. I was going as a sponsor, commonly referred to as one of those people who pays an event organizer a bunch of money to be treated like a king. (I highly recommend this, by the way. Even if you don’t get any new business or exposure, it feels like a bathtub full of marshmallows.)

I was really looking forward to going, for several reasons. Speaker line-up. Hanging out with Liz Strauss. Doing shooters in a strip club with Brian Clark and Chris Garrett. Good times.

Anyway, it has been brought to my attention that I have a passport problem. I was very politely told by The Powers That Be that I was welcome to go to Chicago but if I did, there was a very good chance I wouldn’t be let back in the country.

“Well, Mummy and Daddy WERE going to come home today, except they got deported. Now they’re never coming home again.”

Yeah, that’s not a sentence my mom feels like uttering to the littlest Dunford, so we gots ourselves some tickets.

How To Get an $800 SOBCon Ticket For $0

* Understand that SOBCon is from May 1-3 in Chicago. That means that if you don’t live in Chicago, you’ll have to get there.

* Understand that SOBCon starts on a Friday, which is a work day for most of the world. If you work, you’re gonna have to take the day off.

* Express interest.

To avoid making my assistant cry and/or quit, for God’s sake, don’t email me to express your interest. Sign up to be notified when our free marketing courses come out (you’ll need them anyway, whether you go to SOBCon or not, because they are cool and do not suck) and you’re in.

If you’re scanning, this is what you’ve got to do:

Go here. Put your details in the box. Use your real email address because that’s the address we’ll use to get in touch with you if you’re chosen. When you get a confirmation email, click the link to confirm. If you don’t get a confirmation email, check your spam folder.

(And even if you can’t make it to SOBCon, you should probably sign up for the courses anyway. We have marketing for treehuggers and artists and coaches and geeks and everything in between. And they don’t cost nuthin’.)

We will give the tickets away Thursday, April 23rd at noon EST. Before we announce, we’ll email the recipients to confirm they want their tickets. Once we have confirmation, we’ll announce the winners here.

If you’re not able to take part, you might want to tell your readers about this. They might dig it.

Good luck, party people. I’m going to go celebrate. Every day you don’t get deported is a very good day indeed.

  1. So plan on coming over to make the UK government realize that by keeping you, they now have to accept a visit from me!!

Wish you were going to be with us! You’re so generous to offer your tickets this way.

  2. Oooh, I like free tickets. Look forward to your free courses even if I don’t get chosen for the free SOBCON ticket.

  3. Deportation? What in the hell? Crazy that immigration is getting between you and SOBCON.

If you decide to risk it all and cross the line in the sand, I’ve got the t-shirt slogans you’ll need to finance your legal defense fund.

They’re yours, even if I don’t win a SOBCON ticket!

oh yeah, signing up for the classes too!

  5. I have a new passport however in getting it they lost my other ID’s – been in a wrangle ever since and still don’t have an updated green card – good thing I live in chicago. Not able to swing the cost of a SobCon09 ticket but winning one would be way cool.

  6. Naomi! 7. Hey Naomi, bummer we won’t get a chance to meet just yet – I guess Liz and I will just have to have a SOBCon in your neck of the woods one of these days. :-)

Thanks SO much for your support, and I look forward to welcoming your contest winners to SOBCon09 next week!

    Regards,
    Terry

  9. Well pfui on those immigration people!! :( I was looking forward to meeting you!

Rats! But I’ll totally tweet the contest – awesome of you to make lemonade out of governmental red tape! ((hug))

  10. That really stinks. I would love to go and get your course. Signing up now. Thanks.

  11. Ahhh man, I’m too late? I live in Chicago!

  12. Naomi,

That really stinks that you can’t make it! I signed up for your free courses, so even if I don’t win a ticket, I still get to enjoy your articles and info! BUTTTTTTT, I would really really love to go (ask Liz!)! So, if I DO win, I promise to share the love from your generosity. Not only would I share your site with everyone I know, but I’ll work to share the lessons and insights from the conference itself with jobseekers who could really benefit from improving themselves to land their next job!
