Hi Naomi, your blog is just the thing for an early morning read (before coffee) when I'm still groggy enough to appreciate your honesty and cut the crap sense of humour - and Canadian to boot! Love it.

I have Yarrow's Blog Mastermind course and it does have a lot of good stuff in it, a lot of it has become basic knowledge now and can be found for free on - go figure - internet marketing blogs - but it's good common sense type stuff that really did help my blog - and it's one course that I always plan to go back to and work on some more.

I bought it when it first came out and I regarded Yarrow as being kind of fresh, not in the Naomi fresh way, like a piece of crisp celery fresh. Now that he's been around the block a few times with various internet marketers I find myself backing off, but that is a symptom possibly of my own attitude about the state of internet marketing today in general and my views on it.

Your post makes a really good point about what I think is really getting lost in the shuffle and that is connection and focus on what our business is really about. I've had two businesses online, the first one I never 'internet marketed', the second was birthed while I spent most of my time with my eye on internet marketers and what they had to offer - trying it all and buying it all.

I just checked my stats this morning and guess which one consistently pulls more traffic 7x over? The first one.

So I am going back to basics myself, renewing my connection with my biz and what it's about and what I have to offer first and going from there.

I just wrote a little tidbit about exactly that in the resource section of my own product that I was finally able to put together after I got my nose out of internet marketing blogs and emails -> You may note that I haven’t included a lot of links for courses. I’ve bought more than my share and many have been very good, but in the end I think that focus inside of your business is time better spent.

On the whole, if you concentrate on your products, your customers, staying focused and connected with your business goals and ideals, creating useful and SEO optimized content AND your email lists, (that’s not too much to ask for, is it :0)) you won’t go far wrong but you will avoid a lot of getting sidetracked and spending before earning.

That's my present take on it. And I find myself wondering why I just spent the morning browsing internet marketing blogs :0)) (I got here when I opened Susan Falter-Barns Get Known Now newsletter, went to her http://www.getknownnowblog.com, then clicked http://www.boxofcrayons.biz/great-work/ on her blogroll, then saw your interview post there. So it's all her fault!

And here I am, hoping that you have no word count limit on comments. Maybe I should have wrote a blog post :0) I'm off to find my spin... bouncing off a few walls first... I'm ok...

Maki. LOL. Would you like me to tell you why maki doesn't take part in marketing? because he isn't a marketer. Everything he writes isn't from personal experience. Guarenteed.

I know Maki's formula to success:

1) Create extraordinary content.
2) Use social media to find audience.

Though, as Simone put it, both of these steps require you to work your ass off. :)

Hi Naomi,

Firstly, thank you so much for checking out my blog and commenting (on Legos!).

I just want to say this post just shows how OPEN the blogosphere can be. To devote an entire post about another blogger is just fascinating to me. Think about it.

Would Jay Leno do a segment featuring David Letterman? (Maybe he has but) I don't think so.

Would a presidential candidate talk about the positives of his/her opponent? Um, nope.

But here, you get all that, plus some choice four-letter words that won't get bleeped out by the network, or edited by your speech writer.

Great stuff.
