How to Make $12,246 in a Day*, Introduction
*This is actually how I made $12,246 in a day. You might make more. You might not.
On Friday, August 8, 2008, I made a lot of money. I have a feeling some Chinese people are not surprised as that day was 8/8/8 and they dig that kind of stuff. I don’t really know a lot about the whole Chinese-people-digging-the-eights thing, so I can’t speak intelligently about it. I can tell you, though, that while the opening ceremonies for the Olympics were playing, I was literally counting money.
Now I’m going to tell you how I did it. I’m just going to tell you, though. I’m not going to sell you anything, and this isn’t the precursor for something awesome that is all yours for the low, low price $797. (I do have another product coming out in a few months but it’s not related and it’s certainly not $797.) I’m not going to ask for your email address and I’m not going to ask you to sign up for my newsletter. I don’t even have a newsletter, although I’d appreciate it if you didn’t tell people that. All marketers are supposed to have newsletters. It is a Rule.
Anyway, for the next four days I’ll be telling you how to write and sell an information product. In the interest of brevity, I will call info products “ebooks”. Feel free to substitute “audio” or “video” or even “interactive learning environment” if you feel like it — I won’t stop you. I just know ebooks and it saves me from having to type “ebook or video or audio download or interactive learning environment or any other kind of non-physical information based product you’ve got it in your head you’re going to sell” over and over again.
Here are the topics I’m going to cover. If you’re reading this after today, the available lessons will be little links you can click on. If you’re reading it on the day this post came out, you can still bookmark it and there will be links when you come back.
1. Finding and wooing the market for your ebook.
4. Other crap that comes with writing and selling an ebook.
Come back over the next few days and we’ll get you making some money. If you’d like to have these lessons delivered to you by RSS, you can click here. If you’d like them to come in your inbox, scroll all the way up to the top of this page, enter your email address on the right and click the box that says “Free updates by email”. Those subscriptions are handled by Feedburner, a feed delivery service, which means I’ll never see your email address. I couldn’t spam you if I wanted to.
See you tomorrow!

Damn-tastic! Congrats.
If this has anything to do with whipped cream, we’re going to be very disappointed. There’s only so much we’ll do … :-)
Lady,
I will read your posts not only for the great information provided there-in but for the hilarity of the delivery. Can’t wait to get the next installment in my inbox so I can then spam all my friends & coaching clients with it.
Bravo for bravado,
Melissa Pierce
On the edge of my seat over here :)
I’m very excited about this, Naomi! I’ve been thinking it would be great to write an eBook (on what, I don’t know, but that’s another issue, LOL).
Anyway, passive income is GOOD! I’ll definitely be back for all of the details – and thanks for sharing with us! :)
WOOOOO HOOOO! I’ve been meaning to ask you how much you raked in on Friday. Nothing like a “last chance to buy” sale to get people to open their wallets. I’m sure the big (genuine) thumbs up from Brian @ copyblogger didn’t hurt, either.
Thanks in advance for the play-by-play…I’ve got my own ebook simmering on the stove right now and could use some realistic tips for the launch.
Really happy for you Naomi.
12k in one day is very conducive to the bon bon life :-)
Wow, and fantastic! My own e-book is a work in progress and I can’t wait to read how to help it Sing and Sell.
With baited breath,
Rubbing my hands and laughing diabolically like the little mouse from “Pinky and the Brain” with a plan to take over the world; either that or Screwdge McDuck rolling aroudn in his piles of gold deblumes, you pick which mental image you are most comfortable with. Naomi, I can’t wait, and will definally be back tomorrow to kick off this series.
Thanks, Naomi, I can’t wait! :-)
A great big congrats Naomi! I have an ebook brewing in my brain as well. This is going to be a great read (with good timing)…thanks for sharing. :)
Holy shit and congratulations!
Looking forward to this.
euhm….wow. WOW!
Definitely looking forward to this.
This so great! I can hardly wait!!
This is going to be very interesting. Great idea and something I have been asking for for a look time. Yeah to you for providing it!
Hey Naomi,
This is friggin’ awesome! I’ve yet to find someone so entertaining to learn anything from and to get inside that head of yours as you plugged through an ebook is bound to be an adventure! Lead on, oh fearless one, lead on!
Hi Naomi,
LOL, I love your writing style … that bit about not having a newsletter is just hillarious.
As for your ebook, I think I was part of that last minute $12K rush.
Don’t take this wrong, I enjoyed the heck out of your ebook, and would gladly pay for it again. But …
This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve been reading what I consider to be a “good quality” ebook, while at the same time thinking to myself “wow, they’re getting people (including me) to willingly pay $29, $39, $59 a pop for this ???”
Ebook writing does not appear to be “rocket science”. Most of them contain nothing more than information that could be found relatively easily in the “public domain” … however, they’re packaged in a convenient, and occassionally entertaining (definitely the case with yours) format.
People pay for convenience.
Unfortunately, very few of us are motivated enough to actually sit down and gather up some useful infomation, organize it a little bit, and slap a pretty picture on the “cover”.
… it’s much easier to just that think that it would be “too hard”, or that we’re “not experts”.
As such, If your upcoming posts are going to include some sort of virtual “kick in the butt”, I for one would be most appreciative. ;-)
Thanks in advance,
Todd
Congratulations and I’m looking forward to the series, but, um, that thing about having no way of knowing who your FeedBurner email subscribers are?
Go to your Feedburner account. Click the “Publicize” tab. Click “Email Subcriptions”. Scroll down. Click “View Subcriber Details”. Watch what happens.
…Then again, don’t do it if it makes you feel dirty!
Angus is totally right.
And while you’re there, you can see how many of them have never confirmed their subscription. There’s a nice WordPress plugin to send them a reminder message, it’s called Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers.
Very cool. I’ll look forward to these post (and of course, dropping in my most sage advice based on my experience just to give you a hard time – ha!)
“I don’t really know a lot about the whole Chinese-people-digging-the-eights thing”
The reason why Chinese people dig the number 8 is because the number 8 in Chinese (Mandarin anyway) is “ba,” and that sounds very close to “fa,” which stands for prosperity, financial success, etc. Homonyms are huge in Chinese culture for their symbolism and this is one of them (this is the same reason why many Chinese buildings won’t have a fourth floor, four in Chinese sounds just like the word of dead).
I wish just about to explain the reason Chinese people are so crazy about the number 8, but Jim beat me to it.
Basically Chinese people equate the number 8 to money.
On a side note, the number 4 means death. 1 means path. 6 means flow.
Ha, my favorite number is six!
I already feel dirty and my Feedburner is down. But thank y’all for mentioning it. I’m oh-so-2.0.
что касается темы, то мне кажется актуальность будет известна только через некоторое время
I love your attitude that was displayed in this article. There aren’t very many marketers that don’t offer newsletters or try to sell or develop leads in every post! :)
I’m about to read the posts myself, but I can already smell opportunity!
