Need A Little Help From My Friends

Alright, people. This is killing me. Over at Lindsay’s blog, he has a little video. You’re supposed to look at it and the way you see it is an indication of whether you’re right brained or left-brained. The whole left brain vs. right brain thing is pretty important to your home business, so this would be a handy thing to know.

Click here. I HAVE to know. Which do you see?

Jamie swears on whatever one swears on about very important things that he sees it the left brained way. I think he’s lying to screw with me because it’s TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Seriously, go. Send it to your coworkers, your mom, your neighbor. It’s nuts. Please leave your answer in the comments. I’m dying, here.

  1. Um, I’m seeing it the left-brained way (anti-clockwise) and I can’t possibly see it turning the other way. That’s crazy.

  2. I saw it spinning clockwise at first, but then tried to see it the other way and eventually she looked like she was going counter-clockwise. After a while, it switched back again. If you concentrate on the straight leg, she switches direction. At least that was my experience.

  3. okay, after staring at it for a few minutes longer I was able to see her spin the other direction. That is one of the strangest things I’ve seen.

    Jamin on November 5th, 2007
  4. clockwise

    shane on November 5th, 2007
  5. Clockwise. I’ll still keep trying to make her spin anti-clockwise, but so far those efforts have been useless :)

But well, I’m actually happy with the result as it fits well with how I see myself.

  6. I finally got it to go both ways, but my delightful mother-in-law says that is just how I swing anyway, and I should not regard myself as any form of genius.
I said… well I’m sure you get the picture.

    Thanks for the link :)

  7. I definitely see her anti clockwise, although I suck at maths and science, and spend my working and personal time drawing and creating graphic universes…

How weird is that ?!? I’ve been trying to see her turn clockwise for 2 minutes, with no effect whatsoever. Oh yes wait there’s a change ! I think I’m gonna be sick…

    Joohliah on November 5th, 2007
  8. You both ways people are crazy. Then again, so are you counter-clockwise people.

    Clockwise is the way, people!

Naomi Dunford on November 5th, 2007
  9. I see the girl spinning anti clockwise as well, although I think everyone I know would say that I am right brain dominant.

Chris Wilson on November 5th, 2007
  10. That is crazy! When i first looked at it, saw it spinning clockwise. After reading your post, I even tried to see it spinning the other way and didn’t - my thought was there is no way this thing could be seen spinning counter clockwise!

Then I read the text below the image and came back to the image again. This time I saw it spinning counter clockwise. Way cool - thanks for sharing ~

    Christine O'Kelly on November 5th, 2007
  11. Counter clockwise for me. I can’t see it moving clockwise at all.

    tanya on November 5th, 2007
  12. When I was looking at the picture, I saw her going clockwise but as I was reading the text I saw her change direction for a second. That made me look back at her and then she switched back to clockwise.

  13. I saw this video about 3 weeks ago and it spun both directions. I was telling my friend that the girl keeps changing the direction because the developer has set some random value to turn the direction time to time. But somehow I got convinced that it depends on the person. Or by the amount of beer.

Harri Lammi on November 5th, 2007
  14. Harri, you’re breaking my heart. That’s not true, is it? About the developer? Because if I lost sleep because of some stupid-ass practical joke I will not be pleased.

Naomi Dunford on November 5th, 2007
  15. Initially I saw it counter-clockwise. Then I watched it a little longer and it went clockwise. I read the posts here and watched it very closely - I think it is a trick because it paused for a second and switched direction.

    Lisa on November 5th, 2007
  16. When I first saw it, she was turning counterclockwise. Then I scrolled down so she went off the screen, and when I went back up, she was going clockwise, and it was hard to switch back again. I found if a scrolled her off again, then told myself to expect her foot to be going counter clockwise, I could scroll up a bit and see her foot as counterclockwise. All the way and she’s all counterclockwise again.

This is a wicked cool illusion.

Matt Tuley on November 5th, 2007
  17. Wow that is bizarre.

I saw it clockwise for the first ~45 seconds or so (which is odd because I’ve always thought I was a bit more towards the left hemisphere).

I tried following the “stare at the straight legg” advice, but that didn’t work. Then in an INSTANT is was spinning the other way. Still looked like the arm was spinning out, everything just reversed.

I’m not convinced it isn’t some flash trickery…

Mason Hipp on November 5th, 2007
  18. It isn’t Flash: it’s just an animated .GIF:

You can right click the image and view it. No trickery. Looks like 34 frames that cycle in about a second.

    Jamin on November 5th, 2007
  19. Okay, had my hubby look at it at the same time as me, and we both can see her switch, but not always at the same time. We were just about convinced that the picture was changing because we saw the switch at the same moment twice in a row, then we lost it again. :) Fun game!

    AmyL on November 5th, 2007
  20. clockwise for me, but I guessed it would go that way before seeing it.

    Dave C. on November 6th, 2007
  21. clockwise ;)
But for a second I’m sure I saw it turn the other way, then back to the right-brain, then I stared at it for like 10 minutes, always clockwise, hehe

    Jon - FreelanceFolder on November 6th, 2007
  22. Clockwise - I cant even fathom her going the other way. Crazy people….

Chris Cagle on November 6th, 2007
  23. Okay. I’ve thought about this a lot, and I was wondering if I should say this or not. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings, but I think it’s important to be honest in my personal relationships.

If you think she turns counterclockwise, you are crazy.

That’s all there is to it. You’re nuts. To those of you who understand that she’s going clockwise and that there is no room for negotiation or discussion, thank you. You are a very wise and sagelike group of people.

Naomi Dunford on November 7th, 2007
  24. I just had to come back to this because I’ve been looking at it every single day. Once I heard it was a .gif file I went and checked it out myself and sure enough, there is no trick involved. However, if you study the animation frame by frame, you can finally see how the illusion happens. In each frame, you can either see the girl looking at you or away from you - totally perspective. I have no tricks to make you see it both ways, but I promise you that we aren’t crazy! Based on this explanation, you can probably tell which side of my brain is dominant :)

    Lisa on November 8th, 2007
  25. Lisa - I have one thing to say.

Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah.

Thanks for the explanation - that’s actually really cool. It’s like a high-tech version of those old optical illusions where you have to see whether the woman is old or young. At least now it makes sense.

You’re all still crazy, but it makes sense.

Naomi Dunford on November 8th, 2007
  26. Both ways at will… almost.

    Michael P on November 11th, 2007
  27. Clockwise first, but I can bounce her back and forth as I please. (Not a surprise at all, pop-psych wise.)

Like Harri, when I first saw it I was completely convinced it was a trick. I am still suspicious.

I do not, however, have a big enough brain to figure out how it switches.

Sonia Simone on November 13th, 2007
  28. Whatever. Still nuts. Yes, I’m totally aware that I was the one who solicited the comments. Yes, I may be coming around a teenytiny bit. But just a bit. That’s all I admit to.

Naomi Dunford on November 13th, 2007
  29. Wow, that freaked me out. I saw counter-clockwise first and then she started switching back and forth. No surprise that I’ve studied both art and programming then, is it.

My husband and I were trying to spin on one leg like that, to demonstrate to each other what we saw. It’s impossible. That’s one talented girl.
