Reason I Have a Home Business, No. 32
Please read this one, guys. It’s important.
It would appear that people think I’m funny. Well, strangers think I’m funny. My family thinks I’m a pain in the ass. Maybe it’s like that for Seinfeld, too. I like to think so.
Anyway, the last few days have been exciting ones in IttyVille. Nataly from Work It, Mom! did an interview with me, and subsequently posted about me, and a bunch of other amazing women entrepreneurs and bloggers, on her own blog and on Huffington Post. Lylah did a post about me on her blog, as did Deb, and people are nominating me for Funniest Blog in the Performancing blog awards. Traffic’s up a smidgen. (That’s sarcasm, by the way. Thank God I paid my hosting this month.)
This is exciting stuff, and the pressure to perform is intense. Is this what men feel like? If so, on behalf of womankind, I apologize.
Anyway, today I knew I really had to knock one out. I had to be so funny it hurt. I had to be relevant and inspiring and topical. I was scared shitless, but I figured I could at least pull off mediocre.
Then my little nephew, who’s not the healthiest in the first place, was rushed to the hospital, the details of which I won’t bore you with. It’s thrown everyone for a loop, and it’s the third Christmas in a row that this part of the family has had a medical drama. Zack’s six and he only weighs 37 pounds. There’s not much of him there to fight anything in the first place. He’s a trooper, but it’s not a fun way to spend Christmas.
I know there are greater dramas in the world. I know children are starving in Asia and I know there’s genocide in Rwanda and Darfur’s a total trainwreck. But this little guy’s not in a great place and he’s close to home and it’s really f*cking me up. Thank God I don’t have to get off my ass and put pantyhose on and pretend I give a shit about work right now.
So if you’re the type of person who prays, please do. If not, maybe just send nice thoughts. And if you feel like giving Zack a shout-out in the comments, I think he’d really like that.
I promise I’ll go back to being funny and bitchy and caustic soon. If you’re new and looking for funny, people seem to like the story of how I had to have my husband cut my hand out of a box of wine with a bread knife.

Zack, we are thinking about you and hope you feel a whole lot better very soon.
Thinking about you all and will pray for you in my hippie buddhist lefty pinko fashion. Little guys in bad places need love and care, full stop. xoxoxoxox
Hey Zack – I’m thinking about you, buddy. Hold in there, and blow up some rubber glove balloons for me. Throw them at the nurses, they love that.
Naomi, you hang in too.
Good luck Zack! I’ll be praying for you.
Aw, you’re a cutie, Zack! Hope you get better soon!
Ey Zack !!
How are you doing man??
Sorry for my english (I’m spanish and don’t talk english very well, you know…).
There’s a lot of people out there thinking about you, so you have to be a hard man.
My daughter is 7, and when she saw your photo asked me: Ey dad, who is that boy… he’s very beautifull !!!! Do you know him?
So I have promised her if sometime you come to Spain and send me a mail, I will take you both to the Madrid Zoo, to a games park o wherever you want. Right?
So you know… get well and tell mom to visit Spain. We wait you.
A lot of kisses from Celia (my daughter) and me.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Awww, that’s too bad. Poor little guy. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping you get better soon, Zack!
Zack- definitely prayers and good thoughts to you, from rainy Portland, Oregon. I hope someone’s sneaking some good holiday food into the hospital for you. :)
Zack, you have a great smile! I have 2 boys who are just a little younger than you (they’re 5). We call them Captain Earthquake and The Manager. They saw your picture and think you look like a great friend, and helped me pray for you. The Manager hopes you get out of the hospital soon, and Captain Earthquake prayed you feel better very quickly.
That totally sucks and I feel for you, Zack, and his family. This Christmas there have been a lot of “downers” around my family and work place, and I feel for everyone who is having a hard time.
So Zack, Merry Christmas. No matter what is going on this is the time of miracles and magic, and we are all pulling for you!
Oh, and Zack, please don’t read your Aunt’s blog – she uses way too many of the words that make me smile…
Zach, hang in there and be well, dude. Merry Christmas! :D
Zach,
Be well little man, my prayers are with you. I hope you get better quickly and have a great Christmas.
Hey Zach! We’re praying for you here in Finland as well!
Merry Christmas!
Zack, lots of people are thinking of you and praying for you. Take Be well buddy.
Zach,
Claire (my 2 year old) and I send you lots of hugs and prayers that your Christmas gets a lot better. Remember that hospital beds are fun to play with and the gift shop usually has some cool coloring books.

Thanks for the link love and good luck with your Performancing nominations!
[Naomi, there _is_ no greater drama than a sick child.]
Zack, I was sick a lot before I was seven, but I never had to go to the hospital right before Christmas! I hope they have lots of decorations, and I hope you get better soon. My dog, Stony, says that if I could sneak him into the hospital he would lick you and lick you until you got well enough to play with him.
Hugs,
Mary Anne & Stony
Hi Zack – I hope you get better soon. Your aunt is awesome. Sending good vibes from Austin, Texas.
I can’t get the image of Naomi wearing pantyhose out of my head. Do people/women still wear pantyhose? Especially if they work at home? Makes no sense if you ask me. :-)
Aruni
Zach,
I’m so sorry you and your family are going through this. Many prayers and positive thoughts that you get better soon!
(((((((HUGS)))))))
thanks for all your prayers and support. Zack is doing better, still in pain , and wanting to go home. I’m so freaked about all the care and support. Makes me know that there are good people in the world…….Naomi one of the best.
thanks guys, Zack’s gonna love this.
I’m Zack’s Nana, by the way
Zach’s gonna be great…don’t you worry!!!
Zack –
I hope you get feeling better really, really fast! Lots of people are thinking about you and sending you Merry Christmas wishes. Strong energy and healthy thoughts are coming to you!
Hey Zack, just writing because I heard you weren’t feeling so good. Nothing heels a body faster than a happy mind so just stay positive and focus on all of the great things that are going to happen in your life once you get past this. When you grow up you can do absolutely anything you want to do and change the world with your greatness! You see Zack, I was born with a disease and when I was a little boy people didn’t think I was going to live very long, but I never believed them. I knew that I was going to be OK and come out on top. Today I am 23 years old and I am as fit as a fiddle! I owe it all to thinking positively and taking care of my body with exercise and healthy foods.
Everybody here is thinking about you and we know you will be OK.
Take care Zack!
Zack, feel a lot better really soon, ok? I’m sorry you’re hurting and I send you a lot of hugs. I have two funny fat cats who send you hugs too, and my little boy does also. He is only 2 1/2 but he sends very nice hugs.
I’ll send some to your mom and your aunt Naomi and your nana as well, cause I bet they are feeling sad that you don’t feel good.
xoxoxo We are thinking of you and hope you can come home VERY FAST.
Zack, lots and lots of hugs and hope you feel better soon.
Hugs to your mum, Naomi and your nan too xxxxx
Get well soon Zack.
Hey Zack !
I’m sending you lots of positive thoughts, energy and lovin’ from Paris, France. You look like a tough guy and I’m sure you’ll be fine real soon ;)
By the way, you could stop to Paris and the Eiffel Tower on your way to Spain, when you visit jose luis’s daughters ;)
many good things to all of you !
Hey Zack,
We’re thinking about you here in Hartford, Connecticut. My turtle and I hope you feel better soon.
And Naomi…congrats on the traffic!
Best wishes and TurtleKisses to you both. :-)
Congrats Naomi on the interviews! Sending posative vibes for Zack from California.
We are praying for you Zack! Blessings!
Hey Zack, we are praying for you here in the frozen North. Get better little buddy!
@Stephen & @Wife
ZACH. You look like a trooper. I’ve got faith you’ll tough this one out. Besides, now you can eat cookies for breakfast everyday for the next month and no one will give you any grief!
Keep trucking little man.
Praying quietly
Hey Zach,
Keep on keeping on! We’re all wishing you the best.
hey Zack,
Ever seen that kid on MAD Magazine, Alfred E. Neuman? The “What, Me Worry?” kid? He’s my hero and you look like him!
So I like you too, and you will count in my prayers tonight! And you’ll be alright before I can snap my fingers!
Merry Christmas, bud :)
A message from my 7 year old daughter Cassady to Zack:
Zack,
I hope you have a really great Christmas. I’m going to tell Santa that if you’re not home that he should take your presents to the hospital. One time when I went to the doctor I thought getting a shot was gonna hurt really bad but it didn’t. If you have to get a shot, don’t worry. Have a very good Christmas.
Love,
Cassady
A message from my 6 year old son Aidan to Zack:
Zack,
I am sorry you are sick. I wish you weren’t really sick. I hope you are ok.
By,
Aidan O’Kelly
I have been thinking about Zack, hope he is OK. We are still sending him a lot of good thoughts.
Naomi, how are you holding up?
Just checking in to see how the little guy is doing. I hope you are all doing well and he’s coming home soon! (HUGS)
