know, like, and trust: the 9-week marketing class (homestudy version)

Hi! Welcome! Let’s talk about the state of modern marketing for a minute. It’ll be fun.

For the last twenty years or so, nearly all marketing has run on one central premise. Ready?

If you get enough people to pay attention to you, some of them will eventually buy your stuff.

That’s it. That’s the whole premise.

Everything we’ve been doing – all the platform building and content creation and social media templates – it has all been in service of this premise.

For a while, this premise held. Not for everybody, no. The people who got the most out of the system were the ones able and willing to draw attention to themselves. But as a premise, at least in theory, it held for a good while.

Things have changed, however. You see it in the emails you receive, the videos you watch, the feed updates that flow by. The tone has changed. The frequency has changed. Marketing has started its shift towards the extreme.

People sound more desperate. People sound more arrogant. People sound more self-effacing. People sound more repetitive.

And of course they do. They’re playing a game that was once kinda fair, and now is completely unwinnable. The idea that we need to hold and sustain the attention and interest of thousands of people in the hope to get sales from a few is unworkable and unsustainable.

Everyone is competing to get and keep attention and engagement from thousands of strangers in the hope that a bunch of complete strangers will “convert” – it’s becoming deafening, and it’s only getting worse.

That era of attention for attention’s sake is coming to an end. It will be a messy end for many, as the transition from an attention economy to a trade economy is one a lot of people aren’t trained for. For those who were strongly invested in the attention economy, this will be bad news, and there will be a lot of denial and bargaining and anger and depression before anything like acceptance.

But I’m going to guess that if you’re reading this, you weren’t that invested in the attention economy. I’m going to guess you actually didn’t like it very much at all. The pretense, the “look at me!” dance, the turning yourself into something you weren’t – if you’re like many of us, the end of the endless attention circus actually comes with a whole lot of relief.

It’s nice to think we might not have to play that game anymore. Say what we will about the algorithms, the robots, and the tech overlords, they did do an excellent job of hastening the demise of a trend that had long since outstayed its welcome.

So there is a relief, one much overdue. But also, a new crossroads. Most of us don’t even remember what marketing was like before the entire plan was “make a spectacle and hope for the best”.

Several years ago, I did a coaching consultation with someone who had been referred to me – they didn’t know me or my work. At the end of the call, I asked if she had any questions. She did. She was earnest and real and honest. And she said:

“I want to know how in the hell you built a business without Facebook.”

We come from different worlds, of course. In my world, that’s a mystifying question. In her world, it’s the only question. So I tried to bridge the gap as best I could, and I said, “I built it the way people built businesses before Facebook.”

And her face was completely blank. I may as well have spoken Dutch. She said, “But… I don’t know how people built businesses before!”

No. No, most of us don’t anymore, actually. It’s become a bit of a lost art.

So even if there is relief in knowing we don’t have to play the game anymore (and truly, we don’t, because it really doesn’t work for most people) there’s also a chasm of the unknown. There’s a blank where “what I should be doing now” used to go. There is a collective, understandable panic of “what on earth do I do now?”

The fall class is about what to do now. It’s a new way to see, approach, and structure marketing for the next era and beyond.

Know, Like, and Trust is a 9-session class for independent professionals who rely on repeat customers and clients.

(It was originally released live over 9-weeks, and all sessions, Q&As and other materials are instantly available in this homestudy version.)

In this class, you will learn two practical, interlocking frameworks for building effective marketing systems that still work outside the attention and engagement economies, and will continue to perform regardless of future technological changes.

We’ll cover authority, expertise, consistency, loyalty, and more, to give you a head start working with the concepts that will shape the next five years of marketing your business.

“The way Naomi holds your hand with every piece of content and guides you through a class is mind-blowing, and yet it all makes sense in the end and the tips and tricks are absolutely intuitive.”
– Azzurra Camoglio, Life Coach

course requirements

Know, Like, and Trust is an intermediate-to-advanced level course for established (or semi-established) business owners. The course assumes that you have a basic understanding of how online business works.

(In other words, it won’t cover beginner basics like “how to choose a market” or “how to start a business” or “what is a mailing list?”.)

It also assumes you have basic structures in place (website, mailing list, etc.), or the ability to put those elements in place.

There is no minimum revenue requirement, nor do you need to have been in business for a certain length of time. You just can’t be BRAND new to “business”.

This course is ideally suited for:

“Already from listening to the lessons I’ve gone from one idea that might increase reach to like… five ideas that result in money, and I’m so grateful. I don’t have words for how much this means to me.“
– Ray Lardie, Herbalist and Grief Counselor

course syllabus

Over our 9 sessions together, you’ll learn how to apply two core marketing frameworks to your business:

session 1
know, like & trust – key concepts

We’ll explore the classic “Know, Like, and Trust” framework through the lens of an independent professional in a post-algorithm world. You’ll learn how human attention, connection, and credibility evolve when amplification comes from humans rather than algorithms.

session 2
intro to the CARE model + consistency

We’ll introduce the CARE framework (Consistency, Authority, Relevance, and Expertise) as a new foundation for sustainable marketing. This week focuses on Consistency: what it really means, how it looks in practice, and how to maintain it without burnout or performative effort.

session 3
CARE model: authority

Authority is what gives your work weight. We’ll examine the psychology of why people follow direction, what makes authority ethical and magnetic, and how to express leadership without dominance or apology.

session 4
CARE model: relevance

Relevance is how your work stays alive in the minds of your audience. We’ll study how to signal attunement (to time, context, desire, and need) so your messages meet real people where they really are.

session 5
CARE model: expertise

Expertise turns knowledge into credibility. We’ll examine how to communicate depth with precision and humility, and how to let your mastery be visible through the way you teach, write, and create.

session 6
intro to the PLATFORM model + reach

We’ll begin the Platform model (Reach, Platform, Engagement, Loyalty) with Reach, the recognition and exposure of your work. We’ll cover determining how much reach you actually need, and how your name and ideas move through the world.

session 7
PLATFORM model: platform

Platform is where your authority lives. We’ll define the architecture of a strong platform, how to choose the right containers for your work, and how to structure your presence so people can actually find and follow what you do.

session 8
PLATFORM model: engagement

Engagement is the bridge between visibility and loyalty. We’ll unpack the mechanics of conversation, resonance, and emotional labor, how to create genuine exchange without collapsing into performative connection.

session 9
PLATFORM model: loyalty

We’ll close by exploring Loyalty, the long-term arc of trust and belonging. You’ll learn how to create ecosystems that sustain themselves, where both your work and your audience grow together over time.
