My #1 Trick For Creating A New Product QuicklyI’m launching a new product on Tuesday, and I’ve been working on it for the past few weeks. The product is all finished, and now I’m just working on writing the sales page.

(What’s the product about? Writing sales pages. How meta.)

Anyway, I’m like every product creator out there, and during the process of creating a new product, there are the inevitable ups and downs.

There are times when I’m all high-energy and productive (Whoo Kris!)… and times when I’m staring at the computer, stuck and not knowing what to do next (WTF Kris?!?!).

*sigh*.

Being stuck sucks.

It makes simple tasks take so much longer than they should.

Sure, making a product involves a lot of steps, and there’s plenty of work involved. That work takes time.

But for me – and I suspect most of you reading this – that time is nothing compared to the amount of time spent feeling stuck, procrastinating and generally feeling anxious AF about the work itself.

If you don’t do something about this, that’s going to cause a multiplier effect that makes your product creation time take between 2 and 10 times longer than it needs to.

So I’m going to tell you a simple trick that I’ve used throughout this project to cut that multiplier effect down and help me build my new course in just a few weeks.

If you do this, every product, blog post or random project will get done so much quicker than usual.

Introducing: The Stuckness Antidote.

When I’m feeling stuck, I’ve learned to ask myself two simple questions:

  • Question 1: What could I be doing right now?
  • Question 2: What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?

Those are the questions.

  • Pick a thing you could (or should!) be doing, and
  • Imagine the most microscopic step forward.

They will get you out of stuckness and into action, which makes it easier to get your momentum back.

Let me show you the questions in action, and you can peek into the embarrassingly messy room that is my ADHD brain.

There’s this:

  • What could I be doing right now?
Creating the branding for the PDFs.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
    Opening Canva.

And this:

  • What could I be doing right now?
    Working on the sales page.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
See where I left off from my last work session.

And this:

  • What could I be doing right now?
Writing a blog post to warm up the list.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
Write down 2 or 3 ideas for what it could be about.

No matter how stuck you are in general…

…you're always going to be able to figure out your tiniest next step.

And if you don't know what to do after that, ask the questions again.

After a few rounds of this, your brain will start getting back to its normal, unstuck self.

This antidote even works when you’re stuck and don’t know what to do.

Also from my brain this week:

  • What could I be doing right now?
Creating the branding for the PDFs, but I’m stuck because I haven’t figured out what I want them to look like yet.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
Open Canva and look at some templates for inspiration. Or pick a feeling word like “glam” or “inviting” or “minimalist” to start.

And…

  • What could I be doing right now?
Working on the sales page, but I’m pretty tired at the moment and not feeling creative.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
Proofread it and see if there’s anything I want to edit. Or download that plugin and install it.

And…

  • What could I be doing right now?
Writing a blog post to warm up the list, but I’m not sure what to write about.
  • What’s the tiniest next step I could take right now?
Make a list of a few common problems people have when writing sales pages.

Again, this just gets you going.

Repeat the questions if you get stuck after taking that tiny action, and after a little bit you'll feel that momentum kick in.

Here’s another little trick for when you’re EXTRA stuck.

Now, these 2 questions are awesome for getting me moving when I’m stuck, but sometimes I’m EXTRA stuck.

And by that I mean I’m kind of the dumbest version of me. I’m saying, “But I don’t knooooooowwwww!”.

(Yeah, I’m not proud. But it’s the truth.)

When I’m stupid levels of stuck, I modify the second question:

  • What I could be doing right now?
  • What would an 8-year-old child say was the tiniest next step I could take right now?

It’s amazing how brilliant children can be.

You can try that when you need to pull out the big guns.

(Which for me, is daily.)

In related news, my new “easy sales page” course launches on Tuesday.

It will be on special launch pricing, so keep an eye out for the email that says “Dude, it’s out of the oven.”

If you’re not on the IttyBiz mailing list, click here to sign up and you’ll get notified when it’s ready. (You'll also get a whackload of free stuff.)

And if you filled out the survey last weekend, the winners of the 5 free copies of the course will be selected on Monday! If you haven’t filled out the survey and want to, email [email protected] and she’ll send it to you.

Take care,
Kris
